THE HISTORY OF MCCORMICK RANCH
Regarded as one of Scottsdale’s first masterplanned communities, McCormick Ranch has a history steeped in Arizona tradition. Formerly owned by Anne and Fowler McCormick, (grandson of John D. Rockefeller) the vast area that became known as McCormick ranch was assembled between 1942 to 1954. Featuring over 4,000 acres, the ranch originally contained over 640 acres of irrigated land, and was also used for raising championship Arabian horses and Angus cattle.
The Paradise Park Trails subdivision – one of 67 subdivisions within McCormick Ranch – one of 67 subdivisions within McCormick Ranch, held the first Scottsdale show of the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona.
In 1967, the McCormicks donated 100 acres on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Indian Bend Road to the City of Scottsdale, of which 30 acres became the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park – one of Scottsdale’s most visited attractions and known throughout the world for its celebration of locomotive history.
The estate was purchased in 1970 by KaiserAetna and later developed in 1972 into the master community it is today.
